My subjective theory? I think everybody will look for an excuse to reject Christ. The reason might be dressed up in the very noble garments of logic or nobility or concern for the marginalized or struggles with some portions of scripture...but the fact remains accepting Jesus Christ as Lord goes against everything in our human nature.

But this is of course my subjective view.
