One spiritual lesson a non-American Christian can learn from the American election results

During the build up to the election, the mainstream media had it as almost a foregone conclusion that it was impossible for a racist, fascist, misogynistic, far-right, convicted felon, Nazi, Hitler, Mussolini, dictator called Donald Trump to be elected. America understood it would literally be the end of democracy as America knows it and the end of the very world itself if Donald Trump won. Late night talk show hosts understood that Trump would come after them personally and put them in concentration camps if he were to win. Besides which American would not want to be part of history by rolling out the red carpet for the first black female president of the United States?

The most insightful, articulate and erudite celebrities like Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi gave very passionate speeches in favor of Kamala Harris. Some segments of the media were thinking it would be close but surely common sense would prevail and history would be made.

However, a couple of hours into the election, virtually the whole map was red. Seats were flipping like one of SpongeBob's crabby patties from Democrat to Republican both in the senate and in the house. A clear majority of Americans had elected Donald Trump leaving Democrats butt hurt, scratching their heads wondering what went wrong with the campaign and pointing accusing fingers in respect of the failure.

What did I learn from this? That the Kamala Harris crowd with their woke ideologies and virtue signalling hypocrisy were the very loud minority. The media amplified voices reflective of their own bias both as regards the demonization of Donald Trump and the hagiography of Kamala Harris. This bias data put before the eyes of the world painted a picture that Kamala Harris was the clear favourite. This picture however, was not reflective of the truth. The voices we ended up not hearing from were the voices of the ordinary everyday American living their lives quietly. It is precisely those voices that turned out to make their voices heard through their ballot and send a clear message to the liberal woke lot to the effect, “We are sick of your bull crap!”.

Now thinking about this a bit further, we can learn that the media tend to portray things not as they actually are but in a manner that furthers a narrative. Whenever a pastor for instance commits a moral blunder, that is in the front page and headline of every news station. You know what you do not hear about? The millions of pastors worldwide who have faithfully served their church and congregation for the past fifty years with no blemish on their record. That of course is not newsworthy. When a catholic priest does something unseemly with a child, it is national news (and rightly so), but what about the priests who stand up for righteousness and uphold the gospel with integrity of heart? Does not necessarily fit the narrative. Even on this front, we never get the whole story.

We will never have all the facts or see things as they truly are until the fulness of time. Hence apostle Paul gives us this timely piece of advice,

Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.”

(1 Corinthians 4:5)

The election results and the truth eventually putting the lies and hype of the media to shame teaches me one thing. It does tend to look like the world is going crazy and it has been normalized to call good evil and evil good. When Christ comes, could it be that Christians who have been faithful to the course would be the “red wall” over the whole earth? Could it be that even now, there are more people serving Christ faithfully than ever before but the media is painting us a very bias picture? Could it be that God fearing, Jesus loving Christians are actually in the majority and will then be revealed? Could it be, like Elisha said to his servant in 2 Kings 6:16,

“Those who are with us are more than those who are with them?”

Could it be that God is saying to faithful Christians who today agonize over their being the only ones walking uprightly and defending the tenets of scripture,

Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.

(1 Kings 19:18)
