WHY ALLAH IS NOT ALMIGHTY
The Quran tells us Allah is Almighty, for example,
“He is Allah: the Creator, the Inventor, the Shaper. He ˹alone˺ has the Most Beautiful Names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth ˹constantly˺ glorifies Him. And He is the Almighty, All-Wise.”
(Surah 59:24)
What does Almighty mean?
To be Almighty means to have complete power, to be omnipotent, i.e. to be all powerful, able to do all things.
But the same Quran, simultaneously lets us know, that for all His almighty power, there are a number of things He cannot do,
“˹He is˺ the Originator of the heavens and earth. How could He have children when He has no mate? He created all things and has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of everything.”
(Surah 6:101)
Allah cannot have a son without a wife. Why does the God of the universe, the Almighty, need a woman in order to produce a son? Why do sexual relations have to factor in to the equation?
Interestingly, this same Allah was able to give Mary a conception without any sexual relationship. Consider the below Surah,
“She wondered, “How can I have a son when no man has ever touched me, nor am I unchaste?”
He replied, “So will it be! Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me. And so will We make him a sign for humanity and a mercy from Us.’ It is a matter ˹already˺ decreed.”
(Surah 19:20–21)
Why is it easy for Allah to grant Mary a son without a husband but He himself cannot have a son without a wife?
Secondly, Muslims generally claim the Bible has been corrupted. Problem with this though is that the Quran confirms the Bible,
“Then in the footsteps of the prophets, We sent Jesus, son of Mary, confirming the Torah revealed before him. And We gave him the Gospel containing guidance and light and confirming what was revealed in the Torah — a guide and a lesson to the God-fearing.
So let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed in it. And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the rebellious.
We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ this Book with the truth, as a confirmation of previous Scriptures and a supreme authority on them…”
(Surah 5:46–48)
And again,
“He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel”
(Surah 3:3)
Allah has also said regarding His words,
“The Word of your Lord has been perfected in truth and justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearing, All- Knowing.”
(Surah 6:115)
“Recite what has been revealed to you from the Book of your Lord. None can change His Words, nor can you find any refuge besides Him.”
(Surah 18:27)
If Allah revealed the Torah and the Gospel (i.e. the Bible) and none can change His words, how did the Bible get corrupted? Is Allah not mighty enough to protect His words? If the Bible is not corrupted, it says God is a trinity for instance, but the Quran says God is one. If the Quran is true, then the Bible was revealed by Allah and it contradicts the Quran so the Quran is false but if the Quran lies about the content of the Bible then it lies and is a false book.
Other honourable mentions include, why can Almighty Allah not be simultaneously one and three at the same time? Why can Allah not save his prophet from being demon possessed?
“Once the Prophet (ﷺ) was bewitched so that he began to imagine that he had done a thing which in fact he had not done.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Book 58 Hadith 17)
Why can Allah not entertain His followers with anything other than sex?
“They are the ones nearest ˹to Allah˺,
And ˹they will have˺ maidens with gorgeous eyes,
And the people of the right — how ˹blessed˺ will they be!
Indeed, We will have perfectly created their mates,
making them virgins,
for the people of the right”
(Surah 56:11,22,27,35–38)
And again in the Hadith,
“The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The first batch (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like the full moon, and the batch next to them will be (glittering) like the most brilliant star in the sky. Their hearts will be as if the heart of a single man, for they will have neither enmity nor jealousy amongst themselves; everyone will have two wives from the houris, (who will be so beautiful, pure and transparent that) the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the bones and the flesh.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Book 59 Hadith 64)
“There is no one whom Allah will admit to Paradise but Allah will marry him to seventy-two wives, two from houris and seventy from his inheritance from the people of Hell, all of whom will have desirable front passages and he will have a male member that never becomes flaccid (i.e., soft and limp).’”
(Sunan Ibn Majah- Book 37 Hadith 238)
“That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “There are six things with Allah for the martyr. He is forgiven with the first flow of blood (he suffers), he is shown his place in Paradise, he is protected from punishment in the grave, secured from the greatest terror, the crown of dignity is placed upon his head — and its gems are better than the world and what is in it — he is married to seventy two wives along Al-Huril-’Ayn of Paradise, and he may intercede for seventy of his close relatives.”
(Jami at-Tirmidhi Book 22 Hadith 46)
In conclusion, it would seem Allah is not almighty. He cannot have a son without a wife, He does not have the ability to protect His words in the Torah and Gospel, He could not protect His prophet from dying by poison, He could not protect His prophet from being bewitched by black magic and is unable to entertain his followers in paradise with anything other than sex.
