Why Christians have a moral duty to hate Islam as a religious ideology.
NOTE: This is an article on why Christians should hate ISLAM, not Muslims. Jesus teaches us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute and despitefully use us. Islam as an ideology however, is another story
The argument that Christians should hate Islam can be made in a simple syllogism where if we prove all the premises are true, the conclusion necessarily follows.
Premise 1: Christians are commanded to hate evil
“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate.”
(Proverbs 8:13)
“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil.”
(Romans 12:9)
“You who love the Lord, hate evil!…”
(Psalm 97:10)
In fact one of the specific charges against the evil man in Psalms 36:1–4 is that he does not hate evil,
“There is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes, when he finds out his iniquity and when he hates.
The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit;
He has ceased to be wise and to do good.
He devises wickedness on his bed;
He sets himself in a way that is not good;
He does not abhor evil”
(Psalms 36:1–4)
In the most relevant verse to Christianity, Romans 12:9, hatred of evil is specifically tied to “love”. This is very important and refutes Christians who think love means that they are to embrace everybody and spread hugs and kisses like hippies. Christians are told to love but to make sure they abhor evil. You can love somebody but hate their evil sins and ideas. Matter of fact, according to that verse, if your love does not include hating evil, you are a hypocrite because it says “let love be without hypocrisy".
Premise 2: Islam as a religion is evil
Islam is evil because it promotes the following,
- Child marriage (Surah 65:4)
- Polygamy and sex slavery (Surah 4:3, 4:24, 23:5–6, 70:30, 24:33)
- Wife beating (Surah 4:34)
- Terrorism (Surah 8:12, 60)
- Hatred for Jews and Christians (Surah 5:14, 5:51, 5:82)
- Hatred for those who do not obey Allah and Mohammed even if they are your family members (Surah 98:6, 9:23, 58:22, 60:1, 60:13)
- Fighting and killing Christians, Jews and those who do not obey Allah and Mohammed (Surah 9:29–31,111)
If the two premises above are true, the conclusion inevitably follows as below:
Christians are commanded to hate Islam
If Christians are commanded to hate Islam, they have a moral duty to hate Islam.
Now, Christians are commanded to love everybody, especially those who persecute them and antagonize them. Christians should love the most aggressive Muslim on the planet and pray for them, who is to say they would not become the next apostle Paul?
However, Christians must not shy away from hating Islam and the abundance of evil it gives divine sanction to. We as Christians must stop being naïve and thinking every religion advocates for peace, love and good vibes. Islam advocates for killing, terror, rape and child abuse. Christians who refuse to hate Islam or engage in “whataboutism” (Oh Muslims are abusing kids? What about the Catholic church? What about the white school shooters?) are part of the problem.
In conclusion, Christians have a duty to hate Islam but not Muslims and to love Muslims but not Islam.
